When I sit down to write the Pic of the Week, words usually just flow
to my fingertips from my subconcious (followed by a bit of editing),
but this time, after I had selected these photos on Saturday, I had the
weekend to think about what to say, and so many things came to mind to
say (about time going by in a blur, having more demanded of us but
getting less done, and taking time out to slow down, etc.) but none of
it felt like it was what I really wanted to say.
Then I sat down, now, to send this, and the first line above
happened... and I realised that it was perfect. That's exactly how I
work, whether it's photography, writing, design, or much of life,
really: intuitively, with concious thought and planning coming
afterwards.
That's what happend with this series of abstract images that I'm
sending you this week. Finding myself on the beach, again, and a little
bored with the usual, I intuitively experiemented with something
different, panning my Brikon with a slow shutter spead. I quite liked
the results and ran around trying different things as the day got
brighter, but then forgot about them, overwhelmed as I've been by day
to day living... until I rediscovered them while backing up this
weekend, and getting delightfully distracted from my planned "to do's"
in the process.
I've titled the series "Time Stands Still In A Blur", as they are a
little moment of presence - of nowness - squeezed into days that seem
to be going by all to quickly with too little of the
important stuff
and way to much of the pushy, so called "urgent" stuff. I hope you
enjoy a little moment of calm nowness as you view them.
(These pics really need to be viewed large, so I recommend viewing them full screen via my website at
http://pix.andynix.co.za/-/galleries/fine-art-prints/sea-dawn-series/-/medias/e7f5619b-2f8d-44f9-86be-3bb9316764bb-mountain-sea-and-sky/fs.
I've done very minimal processing on them, just a little colour toning.
I realised that the subtlety may be lost as they appear rather more
flat on my laptop compared to my calibrated monitor, so I think these
are ones for another exhibition, printed large, the way I like to see my
work!)

So interesting, Andy.....I stumbled on (no kidding) this definition of time this morning in some of my reading....."The period between two eternities" which completely stopped me in my tracks (ironically, I suppose...)......the period between two eternities......isn't that something?
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a beautiful definition of time! I love it, thanks so much for sharing :)
