Even when my day has been hijacked by unnecessary frustrations, I have the capacity to find the good side to things. I needed to go Fish Hoek in my overheating, air-con-not-working car today, and since the ry/go in Kalk Bay is causing long delays, I skipped over the mountain instead. I could have felt pissed off, having to schlepp from pillar to post in the baking heat, wasting time fixing a problem that was supposedly fixed, but as soon as I noticed that my mood was changing, I changed it. I looked about me, and realised that I was driving over a beautiful mountain pass! To get from one part of the city to another! There's not many places in the world where one can do this! We so often forget how especially privileged we are, having this beautiful scenery to look at while we sit in traffic! Next time you're stuck in traffic and you notice your mood changing for the worse, look about you, or actually, inside you, and I guarantee you'll find something that will improve your mood again...
Ok, so it's not always that easy to keep your mood in a good place without a little help. I think we all have things that give us that boost we need. Mine is definitely the mountain, so, later in the afternoon (after even more delays) I headed up the hill alone. I love walking alone - I go at a pace that's just pushing myself and I don't have to worry about people waiting for me when I pause to take photos. And I'm so glad for all the delays I had today - if I had headed up an hour earlier as I planned, I would have been heading back down the hill when the view I was treated to was happening. I ended up coming down in the dark, something I love too - just enough light from the city glow to light the path. (Which is a good thing since I had dashed out the house without a headlamp!)

I love feedback! Energy flows both ways, so let me know what you think, whether it's positive or constructively critical, both are valuable!
