"Not all storm clouds are grey", is the happy thought that went through my mind as I paddled out through clear green water towards the backline this morning, after lying in bed listening to soft sounds of a pre-dawn shower. The colours in the sky were so subtle, ranging from soft pinks on the tops of cumulonumbus just visible through a few gaps in the clouds, to gentle hues of blues and greys, creating a scene almost too beautiful to experience, and yet far too subtle to be photogenic. Overhead a flock of pink flamingoes flew by, humerous as always in flight, with legs and necks stretched out in a flat line either side of their body bumps. Soon we were joined by dolphins, leisurely swimming through the waves around us before heading towards a whirling flock of seagulls diving into what was presumably breakfast for a number of animals. A small rain squall languidly passed by, raindrops creating stars where they connected with the smooth water, bringing the sounds of a mountain full of happy frogs drifting over the swell to us in its wake...
And all this time I marvelled (and delighted) that no-one other than Hilana and I were up and out to enjoy this sunrise surf safari!
I didn't have my camera this morning (there are times when photography is the experience, and times when it isn't!), but here's a pic from a previous stormy sea sunrise, which will be featuring in the 2015 calendar (which you can now order from
andynix.co.za/calendar.)
